Hello and welcome to my blog, I specialize in family, baby, newborn, cake smash photography in  Brampton, Caledon, Mississagua and the surrounding areas.  This post has been in the works for a long time.  Planning a family photoshoot can be stressful, especially for moms.  I'm hoping that this post makes your job a little easier when planning these sessions for your family.  Clients often ask for recommendations on what to wear for family sessions, I will say that I am definitely not a stylist but here are a few tidbits I've come up with through the years of doing photography.

Colours: Start with a colour palette, if your planning on adding these images to your home.  Look around at your home decor, what colours flow with the room?  Neutral earthy tones are always a safe choice if you choose to change your home decor down the road.

Coordinate: After you've chosen your colour palette, start with one person's outfit (ideally Mom's), pull out a few colours from mom's outfit and begin adding to the other outfits.  Coordinating your outfits allows the colours to flow rather than matching.  It and allows the outfits to compliment each other.

If you are planning to have your pictures up in your home (which I hope, it is so nice to enlarge beautiful memories) look at your home décor, what colours will compliment the room.

Accessories are great because they can add different looks, a hat for the little boy in the example.  Can easily be removed or added, the denim jacket on mom – easily added or removed.

Limit patterns and no characters/logos – they can be distracting, we want you and your family to be the main focus of the images, not the alligator on your son's shirt.  If you really want patterns, 1 person or 2 wearing patterns is ok as oppose to everyone in patterns.

Avoid all white or all black

Textures are nice to add, scarves. Belts etc…

Think about the background..don’t blend: these are fall sessions so there will be a lot of green, red, browns

Classic, is nice.  Try not to go with big fashion trends, images are great when timeless.  How many of us still have the giant bellbottom photos on our walls (or our parents rather)

As much as I love showing off great images of families looking at the camera and smiling (everyone!), I love candids.  There is something so special about capturing the moment, the love, the laughter...the true memory.  I take a lot of candid images and quite often they are the favourites of many of my clients.

If you found these tips helpful, all of my clients who book a family session with me receive an in-depth guide on how to prepare for their session.  It covers everything from how to dress the kids, what to wear, preparing the kids (and husbands/dads too!). Basically everything I could think of to make your session as smooth as possible while delivering the full family session experience.

There are still some spots available for my upcoming Fall Mini Sessions, Oct 13th, 20th and 21st.  Click below for more information.  I'm looking forward to seeing you and capturing some amazing memories.

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by my blog.  I am a family photographer in the Brampton and Caledon area, specifically Southfield Village at the Brampton and Caledon border.  I also specialize in maternity, newborn, baby, cake smash photography.

Allow me to introduce this amazing family.  I met them a few years back starting with Christmas photos and have seen them annually since then.  They have been wanting to do family photos for quite sometime and this was the year.  The morning was perfect, the sun was shining (not too brightly!), the birds were chirping.  This session was special, we commemorated the recent loss of their baby.  The moment was perfect and peacefully captured.  As heartbreaking as it was, there was a feeling of calmness and peace around us during the session.  KK enjoyed being outdoors and playing with mom and dad, it was a fun session that even Bear Bear came along to share in the fun!

Ramona, I can't even begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.  You are a strong and amazing woman.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to capture these special images for you.
